Intelligent Hoodlum - Intelligent Hoodlum (1990)

Intelligent Hoodlum, later known as Tragedy Khadafi, was a kid when he did this album. Overall this fits right into the other East coast golden age records, but his youth gives this a little twist. The opening track and cover photography made me think that this was going to be very Native Tongues oriented, afro-centric, five percenter, you know the deal. Not that Tragedy Khadafi doesn't associate with all that, actually the contrary, but this album isn't very preachy in that regard. There are a handful of political tracks that he holds down somewhat well and the rest is kiddo brag raps. A pretty good rapper, basic, but good, and some solid production from Large Professor and Marley Marl. A quality album that deserves a listen from any fan of the 90s East coast.
