Bakersfield Boogie Boys - Bakersfield Boogie Boys (1980)

This bizarre little EP is an overlooked piece of work from the new wave movement. It consists of four tracks in a minimalist style, with half-singing/speaking over kind of catchy beats, reminiscent of Sonic Youth with less sanity at times. The first three tracks are covers, sounding like the originals only in lyrics. The fourth track is more bizarre than the first three if possible, with perhaps the strangest lyrics I've ever heard, and an almost Beck-like sound. This track is a little less minimalist with more variation than the first three, with two guitar solos in between verses. Overall it's worth the 10 minutes of your time for, if nothing else, the pure strangeness.
