5th Ward Boyz - Ghetto Dope (1993)

Some of that harder raw funk Rap-A-Lot was doing in their earlier days. You should expect much of the same type of music Geto Boys were doing at the time. The flows aren't as unique as Rap-A-Lot's crown jewel, but these guys are laid back and flow hard for the entire album. The beats are done by gangsta rap legend Mike Dean as well as N.O. Joe, so you know it's got to be good. No the beats aren't sophisticated, but largely untouched funk loops with the 5th Ward Boyz rugged voices mixed in perfectly. I think this album has more charm and a cooler undergound aesthetic than what's considered their magnum opus, Rated G. A funky Houston hip hop album that goes right in stride with Geto Boys, early UGK, and Point Blank.
