Slim Thug - Already Platinum (2005)

In 2005, Slim Thug was the dopest thing happening in Houston rap besides Joseph McVey. Speaking in terms of other mainstream artists from Houston, he was much more bumping and legit than that Paul Wall and Chamillionaire shit. I guess that's a no-brainer, but there might be some people ignorant to Southern hip hop that lump him together with all that shit with no second thought. This album is consistent and bumping for its long duration; the features are joocy as fuck and the production is fly as fuck too. The beats are simultaneously hard and syrupy and yes, the album was released on Star Trak, so of course The Neptunes are all over this. The combo is interesting, Slim Thug isn't as efficient as riding these beats as Pusha and Malice, but he keeps his lyrics hard as fuck, fresh, and stays far away from jacking Clipse's whole strategy. Already Platinum is a thumping album from a legit Houston rapper with strong ties to the Screwed Up Click that should be visited by Houston rap, Neptunes, T.I. and Atlanta rap, and Clipse fans.
