Clipse - We Got It For Cheap Vol. 2 (2005)

Absolutely incredible bar-spitting from Malice and Pusha T--there was nobody better than them at this point, not even Boosie and Webbie. I feel like the other guys in Re-Up gang were just there for moral support or a "strength in numbers" mentality during the few years of label-bullshit Clipse had to go through. Don't get me wrong, Sandman and Ab-Liva are plenty alright, but this would be better if there were more bars from the Clipse brothers. As great as this is, it doesn't really compete with the cohesive, Pharrell-produced Hell Hath No Fury. I really think the rapping on here far surpasses the debut, but I still miss the sleek Neptunes production. I wish they had just took an entire album's beats like, let's say, The Documentary, and just rapped over the whole fucking thing for an even more unstoppable album-like flow. I guess that's just how mixtapes work though. Anyway this tape (and Vol. 1) serve more of a purpose than just listening enjoyment; it was to give a middle finger to Jive and keep the world hungry for their many shelved attempts at putting out a new album. What's Up is the best song on the album, even Pharrell is blowing lines out the fucking water.
